As you hear the songs of spring, you hear the glasses touching like lovers' kiss – Oh, love can be tasted indeed. Inside the wine glass Langmeil three Gardens Shiraz, with its alluring smell and heart-warming colour, I was tempted to visit the place where all started - the Langmeil Winery.
I met with the owner and wine guru maker Paul Linder and had the opportunity to witness the making of Langmeil wine. Using 20% domestic Langmeil fruit and 80% from local growers making it a pure Barossa origin wine. For Paul, if you want to make a wine that represent the soul of one area you assemble it like a mosaic, with every piece representing its own history, charm and emotion. Once you feel the soul of this wine, you'll learn how to appreciate the fact that it is completely handmade with each vineyard having individuality and different types of grapes. Then, the fruit is destemmed, rather than crushed and open fermentation follows so that the process of maturing can begin (lasting for for up to 24 months).
One thing that I learned about the Langmeil winery is their modesty. Even if the process of wine making is all about doing everything with one's hands, their philosophy is that the wine should be affordable by anyone, with $30 per bottle, everyone can taste greatness!
Entering the cellar door gave me a feeling like I was entering Bilbo's hobbit home. It had that vintage feeling, magical atmosphere and the barrels reminded me like they were a part of some godly throne. Surrounded by old wood and stone it has one of the biggest tasting room I have ever seen. As I walked through the doors I was greeted by everybody from the tasting room staff.
My heart is overtaken with emotions as Lagemeil winery fulfilled my dream of tasting sweetness and witnessing great structure. If I ever decide to become wine-maker myself , I would definitely ask if Langemeil can lend me their design. As I left Langemeil winery, my heart poured out with happiness and a tear rolled down my face. Till the next time we meet, from Barossa Valley with love.
